Central Queensland University

Central Queensland University is now called CQ University, and has campuses spread over central Queensland, into Brisbane and across Australia.

The university began in Rockhampton in 1967, as the Queensland Institute of Technology.

It was designed to cater to the regional and rural students of central Queensland who found it difficult to get higher education in the area.

Since its inception, it has continued to expand its courses and degrees, as well as increasing its research capabilities. The main draw for the Institute of Technology was the distance education that it offered, allowing rural students to complete courses from their homes.

After expanding its courses and enrollment it was granted full university status in 1992 and now has over 20,000 students and over 1100 staff. The university offers both on campus and distance education from all of its campuses.

The original campus is in Rockhampton with additional campuses in nearby Mackay, Gladstone, and Emerald. Growing from its regional roots, CQ University opened campuses in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne.

These campuses in major cities cater for international students who come to Australia to study.

Each campus has its own culture and life style with varying clubs and facilities at each site.

There are plenty of on campus activities for students to get involved in student life.

Most campuses are only short distances from night life and shopping, and each campus has dormitories available to stay on campus or rentals close by.

Through the university you can do full or part time course loads and continue your education through the summer to finish your degree earlier. Students come from rural, regional, and urban areas to attend the university, as well as many international areas.

As well as studying across Australia there are opportunities to study abroad for some programs. There are over 100 degrees to choose from and the university strives to ensure students have practical and theoretical skills to make their students 'work ready'.
