The 2013 Calendar of the Brisbane Walkabout site, features the most prominent events to be held in Brisbane.

There are a number of popular events that you may wish to learn about.

Many of these events are featured in their own in-depth page about them, so look for the highlighted words, which are links you can use to go though to those pages.

Some 2013 events to look for in Brisbane as the year comes to an end:

Brisbane International Film Festival (BIFF)

Celebrating its twentieth year in 2012, BIFF is still providing the film-going public of Brisbane with all that's good and interesting in new and classic cinema. The Festival lasts 10 days each November and movies are shown at a number of venues throughout the city.

Brisbane Festival and Riverfire

The Brisbane Festival is a three week event in September that starts with a huge firework display, Riverfire, attracting over 500,000 people to line the riverbank and high points in the city. The Festival is an urban view of Queensland to match the Ekka's very rural one.

Riverfire isn't just fireworks, as it also includes food and activities in and around South Bank during the day as well. The festival continues with music, dance and drama events throughout the city.

Of the arts on display, you'll find classical music, contemporary music, and opera. On the visual arts side there are light shows, circus acts and sideshows of the 'Cirque du Soleil' kind.

Royal Queensland Show... Commonly Known As The Ekka

Although it was originally named the Brisbane Exhibition, Aussies and people from Brisbane... also locally known as Brissie, love the use of shortened names.

So it is now commonly just called to the 'Ekka', even though the real name of this favorite Brissie event is the Royal Queensland Show.

It is Brisbane's biggest annual event and it even warrants its own public holiday, which was August 14 in 2013, for Race Day. This is on each year in August, so don't miss it next year.

Queensland's Royal National Agricultural and Industrial Association (RNA) has been hosting this ten day long event for more than 130 years. It celebrates Queensland's agricultural lifestyle and products. The show includes everything from horse racing, sheepdog trials, cat and dog shows.

Farming exhibits are also popular of course. The Ekka features exhibits of horses, cows, sheep, and goats, and poultry being favorites of the public. There's also a quite extensive area given over to the fun fair or carnival area. It has rides of all sorts including Extreme, Family and Kids Rides... something for everyone.
